camille + alex | an intimate, memorable wedding at rawlings + bluebird cocktail room

Celebrating their unique love story in a serene and intimate way that was “easy but elegant, laid back but still polished”, Camille + Alex’s micro wedding at Rawlings Conservatory and the Bluebird Cocktail Room was exactly that and more…

In 2018, they found themselves volunteering side by side at the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad. Alex, dedicated to the fire and rescue side, and Camille, tirelessly serving on the EMS team, shared Sunday nights together. Yet, their paths rarely intersected until fate intervened.

Fast forward to 2020, when Alex’s life took an unexpected turn. He accidentally adopted Boris, a spirited German Shepherd who became a catalyst for change. One Monday morning, Alex invited Camille for a hike—a simple invitation that would alter the course of their lives forever.

Their morning hikes became a tradition and with each step, they discovered more about each other—their dreams, fears, and the quiet spaces where love takes root. The trails grew longer and as the seasons changed, so did their hearts.

Camille + Alex’s micro wedding was an ode to simplicity and authenticity. These were some of my favorite moments:

  1. Alex wore a three piece dark green suit from Spier and Mackay while Camille wore a modest v-neck dress with a simple waltz length veil.

  2. Alex’s family surprised him by flying his grandmother in all the way from Poland to witness their wedding ceremony. It was absolutely heartwarming to see the love and excitement they shared!

  3. Surrounded by their closest family and friends, Boris walked down the aisle, his eyes (and tail) smiling in approval.

  4. Camille and Alex exchanged vows against the glass walls of the historic Rawlings Conservatory with trailing greenery hanging above and an heirloom family ring box to hold their rings.

  5. The ceremony echoed with laughter, tears, and promises as they sang two short celebratory songs from Camille and Alex’s childhood: the Shehecheyanu, a traditional Jewish prayer and Sto Lat, a traditional Polish song, at the end of the ceremony. Both are sung to celebrate special occasions, express gratitude and bestow good wishes, good health and long life.

  6. Alex stomped on the glass as done in the Jewish tradition and all 16 guests shared in a champagne toast at the end of the ceremony.

  7. Camille’s aunt Betsy made a small wedding cake dripping in chocolate ganache and adorned with fall flowers.

As the sun began to set, the celebration moved to the Bluebird Cocktail Room in Hampden for drinks, cocktails, mingling and dinner. Drinks were flowing, laughter was echoing across the room and charcuterie was enjoyed before friends and family toasted Camille and Alex with stories, memories and words of wisdom.

Camille and Alex, the joy you radiate towards each other and also among your family and friends is so heartwarming and refreshing. You’ve shared so much together but the best is truly yet to come - I can’t wait to see all the adventures you embark on together (with Boris)! Being a part of your wedding day was incredibly meaningful, special and rewarding in more ways than one; thank you for making me feel like a part of your families!

L’Chaim and Moje Gratulacje!

whitney + ryan | a maryland zoo + rawlings conservatory elopement

The only thing that could have made Whitney + Ryan’s elopement better would have been if their 4 cats could have joined in the fun… yes, 4 (all named for mushrooms: Shiitake, Porcini, Enoki and Crimini)!

So, naturally the next best thing was to include a penguin and get married in an intimate elopement ceremony at the Maryland Zoo. Taylor of Taylored Vows, officiated and inspired not only smiles and loving glances, but memorable laughter throughout their vows on the steps of the Mansion House.

I couldn’t be more excited to share what their day looked like… CONGRATULATIONS, W+R!!

WHITNEY + RYAN’S MARYLAND ZOO + RAWLINGS CONSERVATORY ELOPEMENT WAS FULL OF FUN, CANDID JOY AND A PENGUIN!

It was just the 2 of them, myself, their officiant, and their own personal chauffeur (from the zoo) to take us around for photos, after getting close and cozy with Lilly, the penguin! A true elopement that was so much fun and exactly what Whitney and Ryan wanted for their wedding…

It didn’t rain at all, despite the threatening skies (but I wore boots and had umbrellas just in case! The sun showed up during their vows and then went back to hiding behind clouds for their portraits… this was actually a great thing since it meant less squinty eyes!

We ended outside among the lush gardens at Rawlings Conservatory and took some of my FAVE PHOTOS EVER because they’re so stinkin’ cute together and we had the place to ourselves (another reason Tuesday weddings are worth it!!)

Whitney and Ryan, you two compliment each other so perfectly and share such a special connection, I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity to document your elopement! I hope this day was full of more happiness and love than you could have imagined… and it only gets better from here!

brandyce + tanesha | a colorful + fun rainbow baltimore elopement

Their wedding day was colorful, but their love story is vibrant!!

Full of excitement, Brandyce and Tanesha were married at the Towson Courthouse on a bright and sunny Friday in September. After the elopement ceremony, we went down to the water in South Baltimore for a fun celebration with tons of color and lots of love present among all of their guests!

Just because you’re getting married at a courthouse building, doesn’t mean your elopement can’t be full of color… Brandyce and Tanesha incorporated color in all of these ways:

  • Wearing rainbow converse shoes

  • Carrying rainbow floral bouquets

  • All of their 11 guests wore rainbow colored attire and posed with rainbow umbrellas

  • Ending with a rainbow colored smoke bomb send-off

But my favorite part of their love story is how they connected through a mutual friend and initially felt something about the other, but didn’t act on it right away and even managed to continue to get to know each other while living across the country.

“I love her smile and the way she grabs my hand to hold. I love the person I am when I am with her. She challenges me and makes me better. She is my happy place.”

Congratulations, ladies!! It has been such a pleasure getting to know you and having the honor of photographing your wedding; thank you for the opportunity to be a part of these memories. Your love story is an inspiration and I hope you never forget all the joy that was experienced on this day!

brianna + bryant | an elopement at rawlings conservatory

Brianna and Bryant were planning to get married at the courthouse in downtown Baltimore with photos nearby in Mt. Vernon… but when rain threatened to ruin their plan for beautiful elopement portraits, Brianna had the best idea: to reserve time at the Rawlings Conservatory and embrace the fact that after 7 years, they were still going to be married at the end of the day!

Their families arrived at the Conservatory with them and Brianna + Bryant not only had a memorable first look with all the happy tears, but they took advantage of soft light for all of their portraits. They were both beaming and full of excitement, kindness and joy; couples with an attitude and approach like this truly make my heart so happy! This is what it’s about!

Fun fact: cloudy, rainy days are even better for photos when you’re in a space like this since the light is diffused and even, as it pours through the glass windows of this lush, beautiful, indoor greenhouse (side note: it will be humid though! ;)).

Congratulations again, newlyweds!! I’m absolutely honored that you had me there to document such a special and memorable day… you both looked incredible! To have the support of so many loved ones by your side as you became husband and wife, what a forever moment I hope you continue to remember and enjoy for years to come!!

heather + geof | a flower-filled, romantic + intimate spring wedding at citron

On an unseasonably warm and (eventually) bright and sunny March Saturday, Heather & Geof were married at Citron, among their closest friends and family and it was a day filled with warmth in so many ways!

The day had a relaxing feel from the start at the Sagamore Pendry in Fells Point with Remy, their sweet little pup there for lots of sweet snuggles and smiles. When added to Heather’s impeccable sense of style, the way Geof looks at her, the TWO confetti tosses, glowing sun during the lakeside ceremony and warm wishes and memories shared during multiple toasts throughout their 6 course dinner, their wedding was absolutely incredible!

Enjoy these early highlights from Heather + Geof’s spring wedding at Citron, overlooking Quarry Lake…

3 HIGHLIGHTS FROM HEATHER + GEOF’S
PRE-CEREMONY MOMENTS AT THE PENDRY:

  1. It was one of the first things I noticed when I arrived — the calm excitement that Heather exuded while getting ready. With an effortless chic, and timeless sense of style; the feather-trimmed crepe strapless midi dress she chose from 16 Arlington looked like it was made just for her. I loved the custom light blue Jimmy Choo heels with the date inscribed on the bottom; it was a fun and unexpected touch since Geof’s bright navy Indochino suit had the date embroidered inside as well.

  2. Her bouquet from Local Color Flowers was made up of shades of cream, blush, light pink and the most perfect pale spring yellow among anemones, ranunculus, butterfly ranunculus and eucalyptus (and more local flowers that I never remember the names of)!

  3. Their private first look on the balcony overlooking the heart of Fells Point followed by portraits in the modern courtyard at the Pendry and a confetti toss during group photos on the water… it was perfection in so many ways!!

4 UNFORGETTABLE ELEMENTS FROM H+G’S INTIMATE WEDDING CEREMONY + DINNER RECEPTION AT CITRON:

  1. The bright ceremony on the water - not a cloud in the sky! A gentle breeze came through as Heather met Geof at the altar and her veil had a mind of it’s own, adding lighthearted laughter to the start of the moving ceremony that ended in a joyful bubble exit!

  2. We took golden hour photos out on the deck as the sun went down and the minimal yet modern copper arch wrapped in spring blooms and flowering branches, formed such a gorgeous backdrop for their couple’s portraits. I couldn’t get enough!!

  3. Guests were seated at two long rectangular tables with floral arrangements of varying heights, wooden crossback chairs, modern menus, gold flatware, votives and a beautifully subtle gold and ivory patterned linen.

  4. Two Rivers Chamber Music played instrumental music throughout dinner and ended the night with their favorite song, Everlong as Heather + Geof ran through a tunnel of confetti tossed by their guests; it was energetic, fun and such a perfect send-off for these adorable newlyweds!

Cheers to you, Heather and Geof! You deserve all the happiness and joy that this season of life will bring; your wedding was incredibly warm (literally, 70 degrees in March!), bright, loving and full of so many memorable moments.

I wish you all the best and can’t wait to see your future adventures together (with Remy alongside, of course)!

13 of the best unique and intimate wedding venues in baltimore

Having an intimate wedding celebration is the perfect way to celebrate what makes your relationship memorable, unique and fun… there are so many benefits to having a smaller celebration (but that’s a topic for an entirely separate blog post)!

Micro weddings with an intimate group of loved ones have become increasingly popular — in this blog post I’m highlighting some of my favorite Baltimore venues for a tiny wedding ceremony and reception celebration. There are so many places in Charm City to bring family and friends together that speak to your values, personalities and relationship.

Enjoy these 13 unique and beautifully intimate and photogenic (both inside and out!) wedding venues in Baltimore!

  1. The Ivy Hotel; luxe 19th century restored mansion in historic Mt. Vernon

The sunken, private courtyard is my favorite place for an intimate wedding ceremony within The Ivy Hotel. It is lush, serene, meticulously designed and allows you to feel like you’re in an exquisite urban oasis.

Planning a first look? The conservatory is a gorgeous backdrop for this special moment with a modern black and white aesthetic softened by all the greenery and old-world furnishings.

2. Sagamore Pendry; sophisticated, lush and stylish former pier building at the center of historic Fells Point

This venue earns all the heart eyes if you ask me — there are so many photogenic spots!! The hardest part is narrowing down where to take your portraits. The modern glass facade along Thames St. in the heart of Fells Point showcases the historic Main Street buildings across the street while the iconic red carpeted staircase feels chic, timeless and grand.

The courtyard is an incredibly lush and contemporary garden space that is like nothing you’ve ever experienced before and looks beautiful no matter the season.

3. Rye Street Tavern; refined, modern distillery on the waterfront in South Baltimore

It’s probably no secret that well-designed spaces catch my eye (thanks to my degree and previous career in architecture and design!); both the Sagamore Spirit Distillery and Rye Street Tavern are as crisp and contemporary as they come. With interiors designed by Patrick Sutton, this venue offers a warm, relaxed and polished vibe with unobstructed views of the industrial waterfront.

4. Mt. Washington Mill Dye House; industrial textile mill with historic character and modern design in Northern Baltimore

Full of rustic stone and brick, the courtyard space at the Dye House is perfect for intimate outdoor ceremonies; the large tree centrally located at one end adds a splash of green and softens the feel of the patio. The back patio is a fabulous place to have dinner under the stars with 30 people… adding bistro lights takes it to another level!

5. Gunther & Co; urban chic with a 16’ high living plant wall in Brewer’s Hill

This former brewery turned New American restaurant is full of modern design and brick + bluestone outdoor spaces that are stunning for photos; in the warmer months, the hanging greenery frames a beautiful place for cozy and fun moments together.

6. Artifact Coffee; historic mill building with cozy coffeehouse vibes near Clipper Mill and Woodberry

Full of charm, character and a cozy, romantic atmosphere, Artifact Coffee not only makes delicious coffee, but makes you look good inside or outside of its walls. The patio area surrounded by rustic, stone walls is simply perfect for small outdoor ceremonies.

Bonus that Clipper Mill is just a short walk away for some epic shots full of all the industrial vibes and textured backdrops you can imagine!

7. Rawlings Conservatory; botanical gardens + glass conservatory in Druid Hill Park

The architecture and design of this glass conservatory is an incredible backdrop on its own, yet the gardens flanking the front and side of the exquisitely planted grounds and the incredible variety of rooms and spaces inside, will leave you with endless choices for backdrops… it’s truly a garden lover’s dream come true, right in Baltimore city!

Established in 1888, the greenhouses are organized by climate and include a Mediterranean greenhouse, a tropical forest greenhouse, a desert greenhouse, an orchid room and the Palm House.

8. Woodberry Kitchen; rustic industrial within Clipper Mill

The string lights and vaulted ceiling with full-length windows let in as much natural light as possible and worn wood floorboards underfoot, add a romantic feel as your guests mingle...

The firepit patio area is surrounded by a facade of beautiful arches to form a backdrop to your portraits. If we have time to explore the rest of the Clipper Mill area, there are so many brick, wood and iron textured patterns to take advantage of!

No matter the season, Woodberry Kitchen’s vibe is always cozy, warm, comfortable and full of incredible food and aromas.

9. Heron Room; charming, natural, industrial vibes at Mill No. 1 on the Jones Falls

This restored mill complex is one of my favorites in Baltimore for many reasons; the views from the bridge above the Jones Falls are like nothing else in Baltimore and the texture of the brick and oversized rusted shutters just give it so much charm.

The cobblestone courtyard allows your ceremony to feel like you’re in a European piazza! Guests can enjoy cocktail hour outside on the overlook facing the Falls and you can have your first look and portraits in a number of places. It’s also dog-friendly!

10. Cielo Verde; a Latin-Mediteranean garden restaurant (operated by the Alma Cocina Latina team)

If you love food that is unique, full of flavor and an art form in and of itself, Cielo Verde will check all of your boxes! Located at the top of the AVAM with sweeping views of Federal Hill and the Inner Harbor, this restaurant has a beautiful private terrace and is filled with bright light and lush greenery throughout.

11. Mt. Washington Tavern; modern bistro with a Chesapeake Bay equestrian theme

With a modern aesthetic full of natural light, Mt. Washington Tavern has a variety of spaces to celebrate and a fun classic tavern feel both upstairs and downstairs.

The Pimlico and Chesapeake Rooms are bright and spacious, while the Sky Bar’s open-air seating area overlooks the heart of Mt. Washington.

12. Blue Pit BBQ; woman-owned, dog-friendly bbq + whiskey bar in Woodberry

This hidden gem in the Woodberry neighborhood has the best BBQ in Baltimore; their upstairs room and back patio make intimate wedding celebrations easy, laidback and fun so you can enjoy the day with your favorite people and know the food/drink and atmosphere are more than taken care of.

Everything at Blue Pit BBQ is made from scratch: meats are smoked slow and low, sides are carefully crafted and cocktails use fresh squeezed juices and homemade syrups. Blue Pit BBQ is named for pit bbq and their beloved blue pit bull… I love their dog-friendly patio that always welcomes well-behaved pups!

13. your rooftop deck and favorite spots in Charm City… (I’m 100% SERIOUS!)

Some of my favorite couples chose to elope at the Baltimore City or Towson courthouse and then go on a tour stopping at the places that are most meaningful to them… nothing is off limits!

  • Want to flower a bench on a street close to your rowhome? DO IT!

  • Have a rooftop deck with killer views of Federal Hill, Patterson Park or Canton? LET’S GO.

  • Want to sit in Patterson Park and enjoy the greenery with a relaxing picnic or charcuterie board? WHY NOT!

I hope this list is a helpful starting point for the intimate wedding you may be planning in Baltimore… there are so many incredibly unique and creative venues and locations to get married in throughout Charm City!

Please reach out if you have specific questions about any of them or others you’re considering, I love learning about new venues and using my architecture and design background to be a helpful resource…

caroline + josh | an intimate winter wedding at woodberry kitchen

Caroline + Josh chose to get married on an incredible wedding date — one that actually won’t happen again for 200 years! On a rainy and overcast Twosday (and it was actually a Tuesday!) February 22, 2022, these two sweethearts shared an intimate, memorable and cozy dinner wedding celebration with their closest family and friends at Woodberry Kitchen in the Clipper Mill neighborhood of Baltimore.

The rain stopped just in time for us to take portraits in and around the restaurant, one of my favorite spots in Baltimore full of all the best historic industrial vibes. Smiles never left their faces (and mine!); I hope you enjoy reliving their once-in-a-lifetime love story as much as I enjoyed being a part of it…

newlywed couple shares a moment at their february woodberry kitchen wedding

Woodberry Kitchen is such a unique and inviting space for intimate, micro weddings in Baltimore. Here are 5 reasons why this couple and their wedding stole my heart:

  1. Caroline’s engagement ring was Josh’s grandmother’s and the bracelet she wore was her great-grandmother’s.

  2. Caroline and Josh were beaming as they walked down the aisle together into their intimate ceremony. I love seeing how couples make traditions their own - Josh’s aunt even officiated and married them!

  3. Guests were seated at 2 12’ long tables that allowed an intimate, family style feel to the dinner celebration with 3 course menus, checkered plaid napkins and tealights at each placesetting, to add to the cozy feel.

  4. Caroline wore a fur wrap and Josh wore a paisley mustard yellow vest! Her bouquet included maroon calla lillies, dark red king protea, white and red roses and seeded eucalyptus.

  5. The string lights and vaulted ceiling with full-length windows letting in as much natural light as possible and worn wood floorboards underfoot, added a romantic feel as appetizers were passed and guests mingled happily into the night.

  6. Caroline and Josh share such a gentle, caring relationship full of sweet gestures and goofy laughs; while they now live in the heart of Fells Point, proposing at the Pagoda in Patterson Park is how it all started for these cuties!

Congratulations again, Caroline + Josh!! Your winter wedding at Woodberry Kitchen was such a joy and honor to be a part of; I hope you both continue to enjoy cozy, warm and delicious meals together with your favorite people for decades to come!

6 important questions to ask a wedding photographer

There are tons of lists you can find in wedding magazines and blogs about all the questions you should ask potential wedding photographers, but I wanted to clear the air and distill it down to the most important ones (…at least in my mind)!

interracial couple enjoys a private first look in front of a brick wall at the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House
bride and groom listen to the bride's father giving a toast under a sailcloth tent and seated at elegant wood tables

Here are some of the questions I often hear from couples and some that I don’t always hear but feel are very important to ask to make sure you’re extremely comfortable with the person you choose to document your most important and best day (yet)!

ps: you might want to save / bookmark this post to refer back to and share it with your newly engaged (or soon-to-be-engaged) friends!

What to Ask A Wedding Photographer at Your Initial Consult/Meeting

wedding party walking in front of the Winslow in pale pink dresses and black suits
wedding party walks through the cobblestone streets in Mt. Vernon, Baltimore, MD

1. To see a full gallery (or 2-3!) …bonus if one of them took place at your venue!

However, be careful… don’t get caught up in thinking “if my photographer hasn’t worked there yet, do I need to find one that has?” Short answer: NO.
Pro Tip: Our creativity is heightened when we visit and photograph at a venue for the first time. Trust me! ;)

Also please keep in mind that your wedding will likely look very different than any gallery we share — as it should! The colors, vibe and/or season may be similar to yours, but in the end, what you’re really looking for is to make sure that the photographer has the ability to document a variety of moments throughout the day with ease: both big and small moments, candids and formals; that they have a mastery of shooting in a variety of conditions: low-lit churches, rain/wind, dark ceremony / reception spaces, etc. and that there is a clear and compelling and real (aka: not forced or overly posed or stiff) story of the day being told through the photographs…

bride and groom share an intimate moment on the red carpet at the iconic staircase of the Sagamore Pendry in Fells Point, Baltimore, MD

2. Will they go on a final walkthrough or visit your venue prior to the wedding if they’ve never been before?

I absolutely will and even if I have photographed there before, I believe it’s extremely valuable and if I can align my schedule to work with your visit, count me in!

bride laughs as groom sees her for the first time in her wedding dress in front of old ivy stone building at Dulany's Overlook in Frederick, MD
couple enjoys first dance at Mt. Washington Mill Dye House as guests and parents watch in a circle

3. How do they direct family formals and make sure not to miss anyone?!

COMMUNICATION! I will share a standard family photo list with you in advance and we will go over it to make sure we have a good understanding of the VIPs in your fam! I’ll also bring it with me on the day of the wedding. Another reason why having 2 photographers is hugely helpful: usually the second photographer will be helping to wrangle people, get them up and ready on deck and keep track of any groupings we need to go back to.

bride walks down elegant staircase in historic farmhouse at Tusculum Farm

4. Do they have trusted vendors they can share with you?

Heck yes! Just ask and you will receive the most comprehensive list (once you’re officially booked with Urban Row)! I only share the names of people I have worked with on a wedding day or during an editorial shoot so that I am confident you will also love their communication style, talent and personality!

5. What makes them different than other photographers?

You can read my reasons here (see the first 3 questions!). ;)

newlywed couple enjoys golden hour sunset portraits on side of pond at stone ridge hollow

6. How do they ensure your images are backed up before they deliver them in case technology fails?

For me, both of my cameras shoot and record the same images to two cards so I always have at least one card to work with if the other becomes corrupt. I also never delete / format the cards until after I’ve delivered your wedding so if for some reason my computer and external hard drive both fail, I will have the cards to go back to. I also back everything up to an offsite third party backup system just as another method to ensure everything is safe!!

view of couple dancing from above within a circle of guests at their wedding reception at The Winslow in Baltimore, MD

I know for most couples, this is your first time planning a wedding and it’s so hard to know what to ask all of your vendors… I love it when couples ask me questions! I’m an open book and happy to share if you’re curious or concerned — just ask away!

lianna + brian | an intimate baltimore rooftop elopement in federal hill

The amount of joy and laughter Lianna and Brian exude is nothing short of contagious… I honestly can’t stop smiling and am so happy you two were able to celebrate it in the intimate, meaningful way you wanted!

L + B planned an intimate weekday rooftop elopement at their home, but first they celebrated in their own adorable way by making stops for photos in Fells Point, Federal Hill park and ending at Little Havana for a fun and cozy dinner reception with 🌶 sauce as their favors, yummy margs🍹, a cigar bar and my fave: a candy s’mores bar with 5 different flavor combos (genius, really)!!

When I asked Lianna if there were any important or significant details they were incorporating into their elopement, she replied with this… “Nothing inherently special or significant besides being surrounded by our families, in our home and favorite places to spend time in together…” Pretty sure that’s all you need in life.

Enjoy these favorites from their intimate Baltimore rooftop elopement!!!

I love their ‘how we met’ story…

“Every year, my college sorority would host a duck hunting-themed date party where everyone dressed in camo and jorts - classy! In 2013, I took one of my friends (who happens to be a great friend and former roommate of Brian's) and he went with one of my "sisters". We spent the night in the same circle of people but not really chatting too much with each other one-on-one. For the next year, Brian referred to me as "Naime's date" because he couldn't remember my name (and to be honest, I had no clue what his name was either... I just thought he was the cute guy in the crew!) Finally, we called each other out on it and haven’t stopped talking since (unless of course, he is on the golf course)!”

And since their proposal took place on their roof deck, that’s also where they got married…

“On October 3, 2020, Brian and I spent the whole day just the two of us (and our pup, Abby, of course!) This is pretty rare for a nice Saturday in golf season so I was excited to just have a nice day together! We started out by taking a walk around Lake Roland and eating brunch in Hampden. The rest of the day we watched our college team actually win a football game (also pretty rare these days) and being lazy at the house. When night rolled around, Brian suggested we go have a drink on our roof deck. He had strung lights and lit our firetable so it was a beautiful scene to walk up to. That is where he got down on his knee and asked me to be his wife, just the two of us!”

Congratulations, sweethearts! Your excitement, joy and laughter is contagious… hope you never stop enjoying each other’s company like this! You’re absolutely onto something with beginning your married life together by celebrating in all of your favorite Baltimore spots.

We were honored to be a part of this day with you and your families! Cheers to more rooftop sunsets and keeping things spicy… just remember to always keep laughing and “be cool, be cool, be cool”.

elizabeth + steven | a lush, romantic micro wedding at the tannery barn

The sky was bright, the temperatures were warm and Elizabeth and Steven were beyond ready to be married at the Tannery Barn and celebrate with their loved ones in an intimate dinner under the stars.

This minimal, modern white barn with lush greenery and gardens surrounding it on all sides is an absolutely stunning Maryland venue full of charm, character and clean lines. It was the perfect space for Elizabeth and Steven’s intimate wedding ceremony — enjoy these early favorites!!!

4 MEMORABLE MOMENTS FROM E+S’ INTIMATE WEDDING AT THE TANNERY BARN:

  1. Their first look — both full of such wonderful excitement and energy, their expressions said it all; they had waited so long for this day and to become husband and wife… I’m so glad they were able to have a few private moments to themselves!

  2. The moment when their youngest son saw Elizabeth all dressed up was so incredibly loving and sweet. He was speechless, of course! :)

  3. Their intimate dinner under the stars in the courtyard with one long table for their 20 guests, bistro lights hanging above and green and white florals and flatware to compliment the surrounding gardens.

  4. Right before I left, Steven did a handstand and walked on his hands across the lawn so we could get a photo of it since he’s so good at what he does; it was awe-inspiring!

Congratulations again, Mr. + Mrs. Hamilton!! Your families were such a joy to be around, I’m so grateful for the opportunity to document this memorable day for you both!

Wishing you the brightest future together filled with lots of good food, great conversation and many more beautiful dinners under the stars!

jessica + william (aka swinny) | an intimate summer elopement at the Sagamore Pendry

This wedding day has been 10 years in the making and I’m so honored to have been able to document the love and passion between Jessica and Swinny!

These stylish lovebirds were married at the stunning Sagamore Pendry in historic Fells Point in late July and the weather was unheard of for a Baltimore summer day: it was warm but not too hot and humid, breezy with fluffy clouds in the bright blue sky and we had the courtyard of the Pendry all to ourselves… yay for intimate weekday weddings!

urban-row-photo-sagamore-pendry-modern-fells-point-wedding-venue_0003.jpg

Their favorite things about each other in their words (I can’t even… they are such a perfect pair!):

Swinny: “Her aura, beauty, intellect, attitude, energy and vibe. Our life is amazing and I am so blessed to have found someone who I absolutely love and adore on every level imaginable!”

Jessica: “Never have I met someone who has such a passion for life, people, and us. His sense of humor, ability to connect with people - whether it be a waiter or a friend, is contagious. He gives me butterflies when my eyes meet his across a room and I’ve never felt more loved or respected than when with him. Life is so easy between us and I cannot wait to spend the rest of our days together!”

If this photo doesn’t say it all, I don’t know what does….

MY FAVORITE 5 THINGS ABOUT THEIR FELLS POINT ELOPEMENT AT THE PENDRY:

  1. The pure joy they both exuded. The excitement was palpable and so genuine.

  2. The wording and script of the ceremony (performed by Rachel Zajac of Ceremony by Rachel) was incredibly heartfelt, personalized and full of warmth. I love how she describes marriage…

”Marriage is the most beautiful thing that can happen between two people in love. A marriage is more than just husband and wife. It is a bridge which allows the love of two special people to give meaning and worth and wonder to life. It is a continual process of building; of shaping; of communicating; of caring. It is the deepest and sweetest understanding. It is sharing todays and tomorrows together and making each one more treasured and more complete than anyone could make alone. A marriage is a home interwoven with hopes and memories and dreams. The thankfulness and love it can bring have no comparison.”

  3. They both wore Christian Louboutins with the iconic and classic red sole. His and hers (in gold though)… OBSESSED!

  4. Swinny had a custom navy black and blue tux made by the QG. Jessica wore a one shoulder ruffled gown by Mac Duggal.

  5. Their daughters are an integral part of their relationship; Jessica’s daughter walked her down the aisle and both were included in the ceremony during the family vows.

afryea + shaquille | a spring elopement in downtown baltimore and druid hill park

Afryea and Shaquille are the definition of soulmates that compliment each other in every way!

Their intimate Baltimore elopement took place on one of the coldest days we’ve had this spring so far (it was 36 degrees and flurried earlier that morning!), but you’d never know while looking at the photos… they exude joy, happiness and respect for each other, while being the perfect amount of quiet and thoughtfully contemplative (Shaquille) combined with energetic excitement and bubbly radiance (Afryea).

The sun was shining bright and I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to document a love story like theirs! The world needs more of their kind of love.

urban-row-photo-intimate-wedding-druid-hill-park_0022.jpg
urban-row-photo-joyful-couple-intimate-wedding-druid-hill-park_0021.jpg
urban-row-photo-joyful-spring-wedding-druid-hill-park-baltimore_0026.jpg

Afryea and Shaquille got ready and had an intimate, heartfelt ceremony at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront downtown with their families witnessing the love, excitement and memorable vows they shared.

I was OBSESSED with both the minimal yet gorgeous pearl jewelry Afryea incorporated into her bridal look, complimenting the low back, soft lace dress she wore as well as Shaquille’s powder blue suit and floral tie.

Shaquille’s close friend Jim officiated and there was no shortage of laughs, happy tears, warm blessings by each family member and excitement for their future together. All of their words brought me to tears behind the camera!

Their expressions in the photo above (one of my favorites!) was brought to you by the best comment by Afryea’s dad: “you all could be a toothpaste commercial!” He’s not wrong!!

After the ceremony we took portraits in Druid Hill Park which had so many beautiful spring buds and blossoms opening up and matching blue skies to Shaq’s suit… it was almost like they planned it that way! ;)

Thank you for trusting me to document your wedding day - it was an absolute honor!!

megan + anthony | a snowy winter wedding on valentine's day

On a cold, snowy Valentine’s Day in Maryland, Megan + Anthony became husband and wife in an intimate church ceremony after getting ready at home alongside their pups and closest friends and family. Their property looked exceptionally beautiful covered in a blanket of snow!

Megan’s lace gown was simply perfect accessorized with pearl earrings, a pearl hair clip and a cathedral veil with lace edging. Her bridesmaids wore various shades of blush and burgundy that looked so elegant against the bright white backdrop of snow and their light blue garage doors! Anthony’s touch of warmth and a fun pattern came from a bit of plaid in his scarf, that complimented his vibrant navy blue suit.

These next few images might be my favorites of their wedding day… the kind of candid laughter you can’t make up and getting ready moments that came together so beautifully!

As I clicked the shutter, I remember thinking Megan’s expression was 100% worth whatever random weird thing I said to make her crack up. :)

nakeia + chris | a micro wedding with an old world feel in dickeyville, baltimore

Nakeia + Chris are still planning a larger party in the future but for now, they embraced the idea of a small and memorable intimate wedding at a historic home with their closest family and friends and it was absolutely PERFECT! The Dickeyville neighborhood where they celebrated, felt like it was MADE for them: it was relaxed, quiet, beautiful, full of charm and tons of character!

These lovebirds designed and planned their wedding to take place in one of the larger homes in the neighborhood on one of the 2 main historic streets; the upstairs bedroom served as Nakeia’s getting ready space, while the large gathering space on the first floor held the ceremony and was later transformed into a dinner reception.

We took advantage of the backyard full of greenery for family portraits and then explored the neighborhood together for their adorable just married, golden hour portraits (my favorite time of day)!

urban-row-photo-historic-dickeyville-october-wedding_0030.jpg

SIX UNIQUE AND MEANINGFUL DETAILS NAKEIA + CHRIS INCORPORATED INTO THEIR CANDID AND INTIMATE WEDDING:

  1. Nakeia’s off the shoulder crepe dress had buttons running the entire way down her back as well as on her sleeves. So classic and modern all at once.

  2. The baby’s breath in her updo added a romantic, whimsical and soft, textured look - the perfect way to tie in garden elements!

  3. Nakeia’s Uncle Terry walked her down the aisle and was beaming the entire way; it was absolutely heartwarming.

  4. They jumped the broom to symbolize starting their lives together!

  5. The wedding party wore burgundy colors with orange ribbons tying the hydrangea bouquets together to represent Virginia Tech, the groom’s alma mater… Go Hokies!

  6. Nakeia and Chris loved the Dickeyville aesthetic, so they prioritized portraits during golden hour… (more on what unfolded, below)!

We walked along the tree-lined streets, stopped in front of stone knee walls from the 1800s and ivy covered garden residences marveling at how quaint and cozy this hidden gem felt - it was like we were in a tiny European village (definitely reminded me of Cinque Terre in Italy!) as neighbors shouted down from open windows and came out of their homes to share in the excitement of their newlywed status!

victoria + nial | a colorful mini wedding in downtown baltimore

Victoria and Nial have a love story that all started on a Baltimore bench (after initially meeting on Bumble!). These two share the sweetest love and admiration for each other while also appreciating the importance and love of family, connection and good food. I’m SO excited to share their micro wedding and courthouse elopement with you!! It’s full of tons of color, modern details and my favorite portrait locations in Baltimore!

urban-row-photo-vibrant-candid-baltimore-wedding-photographer_0019.jpg

“On New Years Eve we were going to a comedy show and I told her we would walk to this taco spot before for dinner. She didn’t know this would happen and she invited a friend to join us. I told him the plan and asked him to try to get some photos. Then while passing our bench I asked her to take a picture with me on the bench and then proposed.

She was surprised. Speechless for a bit. And said YES! We went to eat tacos and the comedy show. I don’t think she could stop smiling. She cried only as it sunk in, as we were having tacos. She didn’t want the tears to ruin her makeup…”

urban-row-photo-wedding-dog-of-honor-flower-collar_0009.jpg

How incredibly gorgeous is Victoria’s bouquet?! So colorful while also being soft, elegant, romantic and not too bold… LOVE!!!

OBSESSED, actually.

A beautiful day for a stroll and some portraits in Patterson Park near the pagoda, just down the street from where they call home… city life and love at its finest.

After leaving Patterson Park, we stopped at this bench on the corner of Eastern + Wolfe St. in Upper Fells; this is the same bench where Victoria + Nial first met and later on, where he surprised Victoria and proposed! It was only fitting to have it flowered and full of lush color and a super romantic look for photos, by Steelcut Flower Co. Their #urbanrowpup Raffi even got in on the blooms with his own floral collar!

Celebrating at Stone Gables Estate in Elizabethtown, PA provided a beautiful and serene setting with multiple ceremony backdrops to choose from for their summer micro wedding. Kim and Joe stayed at the Liberty Spring House and chose to have their intimate ceremony overlooking the lake, adjacent to the historic Star Barn.

Sharing a love of dogs, this sweet, thoughtful and loving couple wanted to celebrate their unique love story among a close group of friends and family and I was absolutely honored to be a part of it! Their energy, emotion and smiles just say it all. Kim has this incredible laugh that makes you feel so welcome and at ease… and Joe has this quiet, goodhearted nature about him that makes you want nothing but the best for such a wonderful couple.
