kelly + colin | a modern wedding with old-world charm at the heron room + cosima

Held at one of my favorite Baltimore wedding venues, the Heron Room at Mill No. 1, Kelly and Colin’s October wedding felt romantic and modern yet industrial and old-world all at the same time…

I can’t lie. I was nervous when the day first started. The weather was gloomy and rainy – nothing at all like Kelly + Colin’s vibrant and warm personalities, not to mention, the bright and happy day they deserved. Luckily, a few minutes after I arrived to the venue, the sun came out, the clouds gave way to a bright blue sky, and everything dried up right as we were starting to capture their portraits.

Kelly + Colin’s love is honest, down-to-earth, and relaxed. After being together for six years, they’ve seen each other through so much and complemented each other so well! There was a comfortableness about them that can only come from years of love and happiness. It’s clear to anyone who knows them that they are truly soulmates.

12 Memorable Details and Elements from Kelly + Colin’s Heron Room + Cosima Wedding:

  1. Part of an old mill complex, the exposed brick and stone walls, the cobblestone courtyard, and the proximity to Jones Falls give it a lush, old-world, European feel that can’t be found anywhere else in the city. Surrounded by soft greenery and nature yet also industrial and historic, this venue honestly has it all and I love that couples and their guests can easily take advantage of all of it here!

  2. Kelly and her bridesmaids got ready in the loft apartment at Mill No. 1. The lobby was full of natural light as her bridesmaids saw her for the first time — with the huge black and white letters of Mount Vernon Mill signage behind them, it was such a perfect space for these moments!

  3. After that, it was time for another first look, this time with her dad. Cue the tears! This was the most emotional father-daughter first look I’ve ever had the honor of witnessing. I hope my husband gets this emotional on our daughter’s wedding day! It was just the sweetest.

  4. Kelly + Colin had their first look outside on the cobblestoned courtyard adjacent to the Jones Falls. They shared personal vows with each other, taking a minute to just be present before the craziness of the day started. I thought her reveal with her dad was emotional but boy, this one had me crying behind my camera…

5. Kelly was exquisite — she honestly looked like a real-life Barbie. Her gorgeous blonde hair hung down in perfect waves around her shoulders, which really complimented the tiny straps, low back, and scoop neckline of her gown. The simple, modern embroidery of large flowers on her Jenny Yoo gown from Garnish, completely took my breath away when she put it on. It looked like it was 100% made for her!

6. Colin also looked amazing, of course! He wore a black suit with a pocket floral and a gold tie clip that was a surprise from Kelly… but the best part of his outfit was the big smile that spread across his face as soon as he saw his bride.

7. The entire bridal party was also dressed in black, which made the bright autumn flowers of their flower arrangements really pop.

8. Their outdoor ceremony took place in the cobblestoned courtyard and was officiated by a good friend. After they were officially pronounced husband and wife, they recessed down the aisle through a white rose petal toss. What a romantic and joyful way to end this sweet ceremony!

9. After cocktail hour on the patio, the party moved to Cosima for dinner + toasts. The family-style, Mediterranean meal felt intimate, relaxed, and comfortable – just like the love story we were celebrating!

10. My favorite detail of the reception was the cocktail napkins with their pets faces on them. What a great way to pay homage to the #urbanrowpup that connected them in the first place, Colin’s dog, Goldie!

11. Before dinner and speeches, we quickly went outside to grab portraits during golden hour. Mill No. 1 has a really amazing bridge that connects Cosima with another old mill building. We got some fun photos of K+C on the bridge looking back at their beautiful wedding venue. With the old brick building, rusted metal shutters and wild greenery of Jones Falls, it really felt like something out of a fairytale.

12. I loved working with fellow mom entrepreneur Olivia Hill for videography, and DJ Chris Legend of Gold Event Group, who kept the party going nonstop all night with a non-traditional all-white speaker and booth.

Kelly + Colin, I hope everyone finds a love as comfortable and supportive as the one you two share!

The way you care for each other is such an inspiration to those around you and it’s so obvious that everyone was so excited for the two of you to tie the knot. Thank you for letting me be a small part of your big day — I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you both! Don’t be strangers, I miss your energy already!!

xo,
Naomi

sam + brian | a relaxed accelerator space wedding with 2 dogs + lush blooms

One of my favorite aspects of being a wedding photographer in Baltimore is hearing the stories of how my couples met. Sam + Brian’s chance meeting in Fells Point feels like a rom-com movie, complete with two of the cutest #urbanrowpups!

These two lovebirds met while walking their dogs, Xander + Dobby, along the promenade. In Sam’s words, “we stopped to let our dogs say hello and immediately started to laugh about how similar they looked (both little, mostly all black mutts). I started to snap a few pictures of the dogs wrestling and Brian asked if I could send him the pictures to smoothly get my phone number…”

Since their dogs are such a big part of their love story, Sam infused the day with a lot of doggie-related details. And if you know me, you know the only thing I love more than weddings is a wedding day spent with cute pups!

From the details of the gorgeously lush hanging floral ceremony installation to the guests’ Baltimore-themed goodie bags to personalized doggie drink stirrers, Sam put a lot of thought and effort into ensuring every little detail was taken care of.

Brian’s only concern? Ensuring Sam’s happiness. She had worked so hard to make the day perfect, and Brian just wanted his beautiful bride to enjoy it.

Their wedding was a lot like their relationship – relaxed, joyful, celebratory, and full of love.

13 Memorable Moments and Details from Sam + Brian’s Wedding at The Accelerator Space:

  1. Sam + Brian both got ready at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel. Many of my couples choose this location, so I know it well, especially all of the best spots! This is one benefit of working with a local wedding photographer: if it’s windy, rainy, or too crowded, I always have a Plan B in mind.

  2. Sam told me that she wanted a gown that was classic yet modern, with a really good twirl. She definitely achieved that! The fitted top portion of her gown, with lace details and an open back, brought a modern touch to her look and the a-line ball gown provided the perfect amount of classic bridal twirl!

  3. Sam + Brian had their first look down along the promenade, with views of the harbor skyline behind them. The water + pups that introduced them, helped frame some of my favorite shots of this quintessential Baltimore couple.

4. After their first look, we headed to one of my favorite wedding party portrait spaces – the open areas near the Homeland lakes. I live closeby, so I walk there often and am always thinking of different ways to document my couples in its gorgeous surroundings. The fact that it’s so close to The Accelerator Space is just a bonus!

5. Sam + Brian’s close friend was their officiant, and he added such a personal touch, filling their ceremony with little stories and anecdotes of their love.

6. As much as their officiant did a wonderful job, I have to say that the flower girl, Parker, and her sweet floral crown really stole the show!

7. Their ceremony was held in the front part of the Accelerator Space, near the large glass black metal doors. Thurman + Fig designed a romantic floral installation of hanging carnations in various shades of whites, reds, blush pinks, and maroons to soften up the industrial feel of the space. This gorgeous floral installation was then repurposed as the backdrop of their sweetheart table.

8. As their guestbook, they borrowed Brian’s mom’s old college typewriter. Guests used it to type out notes of love and advice to the happy couple. It was a fun twist on a classic wedding detail!

9. The guests found their seating arrangements thanks to a huge golden mirror with white letting and black acrylic table numbers that Sam had handmade. Each guest’s seating assignment was stamped on copper bookmarks with black tassels that they had also made themselves. They were so neat — I was kind of jealous that I didn’t get one!

10. Pretty Little Wedding Co. provided a gorgeous honey colored wood bar with a honeycomb pattern that served as a focal point of the reception space. I hadn’t seen anything like it before!

11. Remember the #urbanrowpups that brought these two together? They made a reappearance as the two signature cocktails! I especially loved the drink stirrers with the dogs’ faces.

12. The buffet dinner was catered by one of my favorite Baltimore caterers, Zeffert and Gold. Always a hit, the guests loved the display of Argentinean meats and the catch of the day. When it was time for dessert, their famous mini donuts and delicious espresso martinis covered the tables.

13. Sam + Brian were the picture of wedding perfection in the golden hour shots we got – especially on the ramp against the glass garage doors!

Sam + Brian, your meet-cute is one of my absolute favorites, and it was an honor to photograph your first official day as a married couple. The love between the two of you is so genuine, relaxed, and honest. I wish you, Xander, and Dobby nothing but the best as you begin your happily ever after!

Naomi

sasha + greg | a classic summer wedding with vibrant florals at the winslow

Sasha + Greg got married at one of my favorite venues: The Winslow, in downtown Baltimore. Even though the weather was crazy – constant clouds, sun, rain, storms, rinse and repeat – this was one of the most beautiful and elegant weddings I’ve had the pleasure of photographing!

Sasha + Greg are so effortlessly in love that it just made the entire day so relaxed and wonderful. From Sasha’s beaded flats and Greg’s custom-made suit to the lush and vibrant floral arrangements paired with the layered gold place settings — it was all absolutely breathtaking. You could easily tell that the Nouvelle Weddings team thought about every detail and left nothing untouched, making this day absolutely perfect for this incredibly sweet couple. I was beyond excited to photograph it!

A vibrant wedding at the Winslow with bright orange and white flowers adorning the cake and escort card display.

11 Memorable Moments and Details from Sasha + Greg’s Wedding at The Winslow (with portraits at The Butterfly Room):

  1. While getting ready at the Four Seasons Baltimore, Sasha’s daughters wore matching blue satin pajamas that popped against the vibrant orange and golden yellow florals.

  2. Greg wore a custom navy blue suit by Christopher Schafer Clothier and looked absolutely flawless. That suit was lined with a fun patterned blue fabric and his name embroidered inside. It was so full of personality — I love how confident custom suits make grooms feel on such an important occasion!

  3. Sasha + Greg kept their wedding party intimate and meaningful with just Sasha’s two teenage daughters and Greg’s teenage son.

  4. Sasha’s day of details were so fun and elegant all at once: she included a cute mini beaded clutch, a satin ivory clutch with a large bow, crystal-embellished Bella Belle Willow flats, sparkling rhinestone jewelry and a custom invitation suite designed by Ruby the Fox.

  5. The paper goods and day of details were so pretty and unique that they deserve their own time in the spotlight! They included white and gold letterpress menus, personalized navy blue cocktail napkins, a geometric navy blue envelope liner and a letterpress invitation with a band made up of a custom watercolor pattern in shades of blue (that also matched the cocktail table linens at the reception!) that were exquisite to pair with vibrant and summery blooms from Victoria Clausen Florals.

6. Originally, we planned for Sasha + Greg to have their first look outside by the water. But you know what they say about best-laid plans… with the weather not cooperating, we were lucky enough to have planned ahead (thanks to the Nouvelle Weddings team!) and opted for an indoor first look at The Butterfly Room. Not having to scramble and make changes on the fly was incredibly helpful. We took portraits inside the front of the venue and outside in their open-air courtyard, appropriately called the Ruins… these were some of my favorite from the day since we had the space all to ourselves and the freedom to get creative!

ps: The Butterfly Room is a new Baltimore wedding venue that features a modern industrial vibe of exposed brick, tons of natural light, a metal steel wall and a chic garage door that created amazing lines and shadows, which the architect in me definitely appreciated! (I’ve photographed at this venue before so be sure to check out this blog post if you’re interested in learning more about it!)

7. After the Butterfly Room, we headed to their ceremony at The Winslow. Held in the trainshed room, the aisles were lined with bright, colorful floral arrangements and gold lanterns. Watching Sasha walk up the aisle to Greg was an incredible moment full of so much love and excitement!

8. The ceremony was officiated by Sasha’s best friend’s husband. They have been friends for over 30 years — having him officiate added such a sweet, personal touch to the day.

9. During golden hour, we snuck out to grab some candid portraits on the roof of The Winslow. With the Baltimore skyline as their backdrop and the most perfect golden rays shining on them after the ceremony was done, they were so relaxed and looked incredible in these moments!

10. After sunset on the roof, it was time for dinner… one of my favorite details of Sasha + Greg’s reception was the tablescape and place settings. They incorporated gold chargers topped with white and gold plates that had elegant line work and a menu card tying it all together with a watercolor belly band (that matched the invitation suite and cocktail linens if you remember!). Between the detailed place settings, the lush floral arrangements, the gold geometric chairs and the royal blue tablecloths, the whole reception vibe was so high-end and aesthetically pleasing. LynnAaron and Kara of Nouvelle blew us all away!

11. Then the reception dance party started! The energy on the dance floor started with their first dance and kept going all night once the dance floor props came out: light-up sunglasses and glow sticks only added to the crazy fun candids that occurred as Mixing Maryland kept the dance floor full all night!

Sasha + Greg, your wedding was incredible, just as the two of you are! You complement each other perfectly, and I am so happy that you found each other. Thank you for the opportunity to document your wedding day. I wish you nothing but the best and an exciting future together full of adventures!

tori + sam | a black tie accelerator wedding with sentimental color

Do you know what happens when two people that share an immense amount of love, respect and passion for their family and each other, come together?

Your world lights up and you never stop smiling. Tori + Sam are the kind of people you immediately feel comfortable around, like you’ve known and loved them your whole life.

These two [and their families!] are incredibly special. Their warmth, drive and impeccable sense of style meant their wedding day was full of more candid moments of joy than you can imagine. Moments of laughter alternated with happy tears on constant rotation from the moment I stepped foot in the hotel room that morning to the last dance as the donut crumbs were being enjoyed. Their engagement shoot felt like something out of a movie, with pizza, wine and their dog.

Their Accelerator Space wedding was crisp, upscale and stunning yet still approachable and down to earth… and their love story tops them all. If you don’t know how they met, you need to read their meetcute in the engagement post above!

Enjoy these {many} favorites from their June Accelerator Space wedding… :)

15 Favorite Moments and Details from Tori + Sam’s Accelerator Space Wedding:

  1. In celebration of Sam’s Grandpa Jerry, the wedding color palette was black with pops of red. Grandpa Jerry wore red to every important family occasion! To honor him, Tori wore red Badgley Mischka heels and all of the wedding flowers were bright and vibrant shades of red. All of the men wore red socks with their initials embroidered in red, along their suspenders.

  2. Tori had a first look with her bridesmaids and moms… then her dad and brother entered the hotel suite and saw her first too, which was so sweet — they all cried!

3. Tori + Sam had a first look of their own in Harbor East, where they read private vows to each other before the wedding. It made the occasion so much more intimate and meaningful.

4. After a few more harborfront portraits of the newlyweds, we took group portraits near the Accelerator Space in a lush, garden-y North Baltimore neighborhood with just the right amount of shade, space to spread out and beautiful afternoon light.

5. One especially beautiful moment before the ceremony was during the ketubah signing when Sam signed in his Hebrew name. Such a touching way to honor the past and his family’s history!

6. Since Tori is Irish and Sam is Jewish, they got married in a beautiful interfaith ceremony officiated by two of their best friends against the textured metal wall and under the most beautiful glowing afternoon sunlight streaming through the enormous skylights.

7. When it was time for cocktail hour, the light pouring into the Den where Tori got bustled, was simply exquisite. Frankly, the light coming into this venue at all times is just a photographer’s dream!

8. Tori created one of the most modern and simple yet lush seating charts I’ve ever seen! It consisted of black acrylic boards hanging from a frame with white letters and greenery wrapped up and around the edges.

9. The reception decor included black taper and pillar candles in gold candlesticks and glass on every table with arrangements full of deep reds, oranges, pinks and maroon flowers; the anemones are my fave! It all added up to a vibe that was modern and edgy, yet romantic and elegant.

10. Their signature drinks were an aperol spritz and a brown derby, adding a perfect splash of color to everyone’s hands! And a drawing of their #urbanrowpup Brewer and cat Brisket, made an appearance on their cocktail napkins!

11. Seeing Tori’s face light up when they entered and saw the reception space for the first time was definitely a highlight for me…

12. Continuing to incorporate and include all kinds of family + faith traditions, Sam’s grandmother gave a Jewish blessing and Tori’s grandmother shared an Irish blessing right before dinner. The guests didn’t miss out on honoring Grandpa Jerry and many of them celebrated with a red ribbon tied around their ankles which was really noticeable and fun to see once the dance floor opened.

13. Tori + Sam are such a fun loving couple and knew they wanted to throw a really great party. Their band, Sound Connection from the Washington Talent Agency, provided that exact vibe — the energy was so intense that I thought the floor was going to give in during the hora!

14. Taking advantage of golden hour during dinner was beautiful; the sunlight got more golden-y as we entered the patio and we ended in front of the glass garage door on the ramp that was lined with greenery and all of the colorful flowers from their welcome party, in glass bud vases.

15. Right before the night ended, Tori changed into a sequined asymmetrical dress with a side slit and spaghetti straps. She was breathtaking and the patio portraits we snuck out to take against the dark sky were everything and more!

Tori + Sam, your wedding was one for the books! I loved how you incorporated so much meaning in all of your details, while still keeping the vibe so quintessentially you. Every time we’re together, it’s like hanging out with the best old friends (and the ones with the best sense of style!)… I wish you both nothing but the best in the future and can’t wait to see what you accomplish together!

Thank you, thank you for everything. For being you, your patience and trust, and for allowing Sam to buy you those dollar beers that faithful night! I’ve said it before, but the world truly needs more of your love in it. Congrats again, cuties!!

Naomi

laura + bryan | a colorful wedding at the loom meadow mill

Sooo, I’ve been excited to share this colorful and fun May wedding with you ever since it happened!!

Laura + Bryan are so similar and 100% my kind of people: driven, passionate, energetic, and hardworking. Laura’s detail-oriented, always on-top-of-it attitude made this an extremely fun wedding to photograph and visualize; whenever I got an email from Laura, it made me smile. I really appreciate hearing about and knowing many of the details in advance - I fully believe no detail is too small to consider and have a plan for (I blame the recovering architect in me, ha).

The vision for their spring wedding was “fun, simple, colorful + elegant” and wow, did they achieve that! Everything from the floral arrangements, to the candy bar seating display and the table settings could be described in those words.

Besides the fact that they are an incredible couple, I was also looking forward to their wedding because it was the first one ever held at The Loom at Meadow Mill. I had photographed this space when it first opened, but I couldn’t wait to see it all dressed up + full of love and COLOR!

This new Baltimore wedding venue is the little sister to area favorites, the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House and The Winslow at Parker Metal. If you’ve been following my work, you know how much I love to document weddings at industrial venues. To be asked to capture the first-ever wedding at The Loom was a dream come true… the fact that Laura + Bryan quickly became one of my favorite couples was just the cherry on top!

12 Memorable Moments and details from Laura + Bryan’s Wedding at the loom (+ hotel revival):

  1. Before heading to the venue, Laura + Bryan both got ready at one of my favorite boutique Baltimore hotels, the Revival. Because the end of May brings Preakness weekend to Charm City and graduations galore, we wanted a quiet, indoor space for their first look. That meant that any of the more public areas of the hotel, like the lobby and lounges, were out of the question — the beloved and super photogenic Miss Mary Suite was the answer to our prayers.

  2. To help keep the family and friend group portraits relaxed and fun, Laura also booked the Library at the Hotel Indigo a few blocks away. One thing I really love about living and working in Baltimore is all of the unique spaces available throughout the city, giving our #urpcouples countless opportunities to get perfect beautiful and genuine portraits, no matter what size!

  3. Speaking of group portraits, Laura + Bryan didn’t have a wedding party in the traditional sense; instead they had an honorary wedding party of their closest friends and siblings to help them get ready throughout the morning.

  4. With a large fluffy tulle bottom and a lace v-neck top, Laura’s gown looked like it was made for her. Brushed Beauty tied her look together by keeping her hair down with soft waves and makeup that made her gorgeous blue eyes pop. She was effortlessly joyful and beautiful the entire day!

5. The Loom is such a perfect Baltimore venue for intimate weddings with < 100 guests. It has an industrial feel but the light and airy white walls and large windows allowing natural light to flood in, make it feel super clean, natural, and bright. Any color palette would look incredible in this space!

6. The florals at this wedding were out of this world… they also had a really cool story behind them: Molly Zager of Molly Zager Floral Design Co. in San Diego, CA is Laura’s cousin. As her gift to the couple, Molly offered to take care of all the flowers: Laura’s vibrant bouquet, the chuppah, the installation on the 360° bar and all the table centerpieces had peonies, ranunculus, roses and magenta anemones. How she managed to pull this off from across the country, I will never know! It was pure perfection in every sense of the word. She did an incredible job outfitting the space and vibe of the wedding.

7. The ceremony included many Jewish elements to honor Laura’s family’s Jewish heritage, culture and traditions: kippot were available to wear, Laura and Bryan’s parents walked them both down the aisle, they drank wine out of a kiddush cup and Bryan stepped on a glass as everyone yelled “Mazel Tov!” and they kissed.

8. One of the most unique things about The Loom is the hidden bar in the foyer. Laura used this space as a candy bar and gave everyone a little box with their name and table number to hold their candy choices throughout the evening.

9. There is also a really great secret staircase at The Loom that is part of the original mill building. During cocktail hour, we snuck out to grab some gorgeous portraits of the happy couple.

10. Copper Kitchen and Heather of 1423 Events did a fabulous job (as usual!) with the food and aesthetic of all the colorful and fun reception decor; I’m pretty sure that the table and bar settings, complete with cocktail napkins that had MarlowBea’s #urbanrowpup face on them, were one of the highlights of the reception!

11. The night was topped off with a gorgeous 2-tiered cake that was adorned with fresh flowers and a DELICIOUS cookie chipwich sundae bar for guests to enjoy.

12. My favorite memory of their wedding came during the Hora… not only did Laura + Bryan get up on the chairs, but Laura’s spry 90-year-old grandma did, too! She had the best time and it was so sweet to witness the love this family shares together.

Laura + Bryan, from the moment we met, I knew your wedding was going to be one for the books. You are truly a perfect match and I cannot wait to see what you accomplish together as a married couple. You made my job a breeze with your detail-oriented and decisive attitude - I love a couple that knows what they want and how to get it!

It was so much fun to work together and I didn’t want our time together to end... thank you for letting me be the one to capture the first day of the rest of your lives together!!

xo,
Naomi

the butterfly room at sandtown furniture | industrial baltimore wedding venue

It’s no secret that Baltimore is a city that prides itself on its charm, history and industrial roots. When Sandtown Furniture Co. discovered this incredible brick warehouse in 2021, they had a vision for the space that is unmatched in its attention to design detail while also preserving its rich history dating back to 1885.

As mentioned on The Butterfly Room's website, “only Baltimore would have a wedding venue in a woodshop” …that right there is just one of the many reasons I love Baltimore!! I could list all the reasons why I think The Butterfly Room is an incredible wedding and event venue, but I thought a few (hundred) photos might do a better job than I ever could… ;)

Included below are some FAQs and quick facts about capacity, logistics and what makes The Butterfly Room at Sandtown Furniture Co. such a unique industrial Baltimore wedding venue; hope you find it to be a helpful resource!

Please let me know if you’re planning your wedding here — I’d love to be a part of it!

the butterfly room at sandtown furniture co

There are so many ways to celebrate here, the possibilities are truly endless with this 7,000 sf blank canvas to make your own…

Between the exposed, intricately textured brick walls, the larger-than-life floor to ceiling glass wall that divides the event space from the woodworking space for furniture design and production, to the arched windows letting in tons of natural light from above (at certain times of day it feels heavenly as the sun shines in…) and the 6 foot long hand-carved white oak door pull, you will be in awe as soon as you walk in, promise.

The inspiration for this shoot came from taking a raw industrial, historic warehouse and transforming it to have a warm, romantic, soft and modern elegant look...

The color palette incorporated warm orange-y + mustard yellow tones, honey, rust, amber and beige neutral tones with black accents for a modern, minimal wedding aesthetic. The matte black chairs paired perfectly with this custom Sandtown Furniture Co. walnut wood table and meadow-inspired floral ground arch installation for the ceremony.

Wanton Poppies BLEW ME AWAY with their talent and vision for all of the florals and greenery; a hanging install, a ground arch, 2 different tablescapes (fruit in one, greenery in the other!), a stunning bouquet + boutonniere… you name it, they CRUSHED IT!

ABOUT THE BUTTERFLY ROOM AT SANDTOWN FURNITURE CO.:

What makes The Butterfly Room unique as an industrial wedding venue in Baltimore?

Have you ever been to a wedding in a woodshop? We make handcrafted wood furniture, and we think our event space has one of the coolest views – our woodshop. Additionally, the 30’ high ceilings, the texture + color of the original brick walls, and the 75 arched windows make this space a sight to behold. And with the glass wall, you see all that from every corner of the space.

This space is so full of character, texture and beautiful craftsmanship in the building details and the wood furniture they design. I don’t know of another wedding venue in Baltimore that has this sense of scale to it and is accessibly laid out all on one level.

INTERESTED IN HAVING YOUR WEDDING AT THE BUTTERFLY ROOM? HERE ARE SOME QUICK FACTS:

What was this space used for in its previous life?
This old building was built in 1885 by The Chesapeake Gas Company of Baltimore to be a gas processing plant. It has served Baltimore in many forms over the years; stoves were made here; canning & bottling was done here; but it had been vacant for many years by the time we found it.

Are there any design inspiration or elements that you're particularly proud of and/or excited to see in use?

The glass wall, for sure.  This is the only thing that separates the gallery/event space from the woodshop. That transparency was key for us. When guests are in the gallery, we want them to feel like they’re in the heart of a woodshop.  And we wanted our craftsman to be able do their work in a beautiful space where they love to be. The full-height, full-width glass wall creates that feel.

The arched windows & intricate brick-work are vestiges from another era, and we went to great lengths to preserve all of that. Generally, we’re really proud of how much of the original building remains exactly as it was when we found it.

Those are some of the big moments, but honestly, we obsessed over every little detail just as much. The joinery details on the handmade bathroom vanities + mirrors…the solid concrete light fixtures in the bridal suites….the 6 foot long hand carved white oak door pull…we put so much thought & love into EVERY detail.

How many guests can be accommodated for a seated dinner and dancing?
200 guests

Where do guests park?
Valet parking is required & there is a valet partner who will handle it all.

How many events are hosted per day?

alicia + jarett | navy blue and terracotta fall wedding at the winslow

“Jarett has legitimately the best smile and laugh on the planet, he can make the worst days better with just one smile…”

Alicia and Jarett’s wedding day was full of all the best things on the planet: excitement, passion, emotion, laughter, fun (I’ve never seen so many people dancing down the aisle!), wine, happy tears, dancing and a love story 10 years in the making.

I can’t wait to show you these early favorites from the most gorgeous Fall day, when Alicia and Jarett became husband and wife!!

5 MEANINGFUL MOMENTS AND DETAILS FROM A+J’S OCTOBER WEDDING AT THE WINSLOW

  1. To honor Jarett's late mother who passed away from 9/11 related cancer in 2020, she wore her shoes and tennis bracelet as well as carrying a picture of her on a charm tied around her bouquet

  2. The radiant joy on Jarett’s face as Alicia walked up the aisle to meet him… not to mention the excitement of all of the wedding party as they made their way up the aisle! The clapping, the enormous smiles, the flower man’s dance moves — it was all so heartwarming!

  3. When Alicia + Jarett saw the reception space before their guests; the look on their faces at the reveal was just priceless!

  4. The color palette for their warm October wedding was full of terracotta, rust, burnt orange, cream, crimson red and navy; the groom wore a floral tie with a checkered navy suit.

  5. Their rooftop portraits as the sunset… a wedding at the Winslow wouldn’t be complete without these views! A+J went up to the roof right after ceremony once she was bustled and got to enjoy a few minutes to themselves before the party kicked off with their favorite people…
    10/10 recommend!

Congratulations, Mr. + Mrs. Henderson!!! It’s been such an honor to get to know you both and celebrate your love story… one that’s been so many years in the making! I hope you never stop dancing and secret handshaking through life!

xoxo,
Naomi

joslyn + andrew | a jewel-toned wedding at the assembly room

On the last Saturday in September, Joslyn and Andrew said ‘I Do’ while their closest family and friends cheered them on and partied all night under the most beautiful twinkle lights and with the best dance moves as the Onyx Band (my favorite!) performed at the Assembly Room in downtown Baltimore…

But what really stole the show were 2 moments for me: the first being the moment Andrew saw Joslyn at their first look on the promenade… his speechlessness said it all! And the second being the way they look at each other and are filled with so much love, joy, kindness and humor, it simply radiates from them (just look at this first photo!).

Here is a little bit from what their wedding day looked like!

bride and groom standing in front of black garage door wall

Congratulations, Mr. + Mrs. Bredholt!! We are so happy for you and know that this is just the start of amazing adventures together… you guys sure know how to throw an incredible party for all your favorite people! I hope Dexter’s not too sad he missed it when you show him the photos… ;)

allyson + matt | an elegant spring wedding at the assembly room

It was a beautiful spring day for Allyson and Matt’s wedding at the Assembly Room in downtown Baltimore — the sun was shining, there was a slight breeze along the water for their first look and most importantly, all of their families and friends were overflowing with love and joy as they watched these cuties officially become husband and wife!

6 UNIQUE DETAILS FROM A+M’S ELEGANT, INDUSTRIAL WEDDING AT THE ASSEMBLY ROOM

  1. Allyson’s classic plunging v-neck ballgown had pockets (!!!) and the most gorgeous train and lace back detail

  2. Matt’s reaction to seeing Allyson for the first time… he just kept saying “wow…” it was the actual sweetest.

  3. During their ceremony, Allyson’s bridesmaid read a poem that was personalized for them and so incredibly cute!

  4. They used Allyson’s parents wedding cake topper for theirs - it was perfect.

  5. The most dramatic and fun light pouring through the Assembly Room skylights during their portraits.

  6. Allyson’s aunts and uncles had a blast on the dance floor and you can easily tell who came to party!

The view from and vibe in their getting ready suites at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront was amazing; so calm, confident and ready to do this wedding thing! Allyson’s dress and Matt’s tux were so classically elegant — I could not get enough of those dress pockets!!!

When it came time for their first look on the promenade, the sun was shining, their families were cheering them on and Allyson’s veil couldn’t wait for it’s time to shine. Having an intimate wedding party of 2 on each side meant we could get creative with portraits by the water and stay ahead of schedule all day long… not to mention, having fun while taking them!

Congratulations, Allyson & Matt!! We were incredibly honored to be a part of your wedding memories and hope you continue dancing in the streets for decades to come! Thanks for being so willing to trust us and go along with all our crazy ideas, you two (and your families) are truly the best!

christina + tony | a modern, industrial chic wedding at the winslow

I’m still on a high from Christina and Tony’s wedding at The Winslow that left us all speechless for so many reasons!! These lovebirds had an incredible vision to celebrate their modern love story and all the planning paid off…

I’m so excited to share these early favorites for you to enjoy - they waited an entire extra year to get married and celebrate (thanks to Covid); I think the wait was well worth it, but I’m so glad they’re finally officially husband and wife!!

There were so many incredible details with so much thought put into them by Christina, Tony, their families and the entire design + planning team of Lemon and Lime Event Design…

Here are my top 7 favorite elements and moments from their chic October wedding at The Winslow:

  1. Setting the tone for their modern and elegant celebration full of black and white details, guests received a custom invitation suite with an envelope liner that incorporated art Christina painted herself!

    • Her beautiful abstract painting also formed the background to the custom welcome sign that said ‘It’s Friday, I’m in Love’ since their wedding took place on a Friday (obviously)!

  2. With Tony’s passion for photography and film as inspiration for the escort card display, guests found their names and seating assignments on rolls of film mounted on a display that said ‘You’ve Captured My Heart’ and included 7 of Tony’s cameras.

  3. The ceremony in the train shed at The Winslow was so luxe, elegant and minimal:

    • an edgy and modern floral installation made up of rich, moody tones and lots of texture, hung on a gridded backdrop against a light gray draping

    • smoke gray ghost chairs provided seating for guests in a way that allowed Christina and Tony to be surrounded by loved ones on 3 sides

    • they said their vows in a heartwarming exchange on a black riser with a hard aisle runner (also black) that gave the ceremony space such a unique and sleek look

  4. In the cocktail area, guests were able to leave messages on a black and brass vintage Fete Fone - love the idea of an audio guest book!

    • Oysters and a mouthwatering charcuterie spread greeted guests after ceremony near the bar

    • Black custom napkins with 4 different copper foil-lettered quotes from the Office and Friends

  5. Their first look outside the Winslow followed by a festive and fun confetti toss with their wedding party wearing all black, other than Christina in white and Tony in a maroon tux (+ a floral pocket square… OBSESSED!).

  6. All of the romantic, textured florals in every space and on every surface. Christina’s bouquet (and Tony’s floral pocket square on a smaller scale) were made up of light colored dahlias, roses and ranunculus with darker pops of flowers and greenery that eluded to early Fall.

    • the flowers and greenery in the ceremony and reception at the venue were darker and full of moodier elements that softened the industrial space

  7. Now, the reception details… where do I begin?! I’m going to let the photos do most of the talking for these, so PLEASE scroll down to see it all!!! But here are the highlights:

    • a mirrored dance floor for guests to dance to live music by the Onyx Band, on a stage lined with greenery

    • white plaster textured dining tables for the sweetheart and wedding party tables with black velvet dining chairs and a brushed gold frame; these tables had matte black chargers with clear glass dinner plates with a white rim and brushed gold flatware

    • velvet and leather lounge seating with gold accents; black plaster tables with smoke gray ghost chairs

    • hanging bistro lights that allowed the long tables to appear suspended and cast a beautifully warm and cozy glow on the entire space

    • polished black chrome chairs for the tables above and below the mezzanine; these round tables had matte black plates and tortoise and gold flatware

    • lush floral centerpieces and a variety of candles in black + pink in glass cylindrical and rectangular hurricanes

Congratulations, Christina and Tony!! We were so honored to be able to document your exquisite wedding day - it was absolutely one for the books - I’ll never forget all of the amazing personal touches you incorporated! I’m so glad you finally got to celebrate with all of your friends and family, give Marcel a hug from me!!

Naomi

meghan + justin | a colorful wedding at mt. washington mill dye house

Meghan and Justin’s wedding at the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House was colorful, meaningful, intimate and full of unique and memorable moments and details… it was such a joy to see them married in a beautifully historic, industrial space that allowed them to celebrate safely outdoors with their closest family and friends in attendance.

They’re such a photogenic couple in one of my favorite venues in Baltimore; enjoy these favorites from their celebration!!

5 MEMORABLE DETAILS FROM M+J’S INTIMATE WEDDING AT THE DYE HOUSE

  1. Meghan and Justin’s invitation suite that was so modern, bold and graphic, designed by artist Dave Cole.

  2. The bright, colorful florals that Mallory of Violet Florals designed to be lush, vibrant and full of texture were so warm and inviting in lending a soft feel to the brick and stone at the venue.

  3. Justin received a bracelet from Meghan instead of a wedding ring and wore his mother’s name necklace so that she was there with him.

  4. Justin met Meghan halfway during her walk down the aisle which spoke volumes to me about their relationship.

  5. Celebrating entirely outdoors under the stars within the courtyard and patio of the Mt. Washington Mill Dye House was so special — not only from a health safety standpoint, but the late September weather was simply cozy and perfect to dine and dance alfresco.

Congratulations again, Meghan and Justin!! Having the opportunity to document your bright, joyful and intimate wedding celebration at the Dye House was an absolute honor - you two have such an inspiring relationship full of respect, curiosity and kindness.

I wish you all the best as you continue to enjoy lazy evenings and lots of exciting adventures and conversations, building your lives together.

lizzie + jon | a heron room wedding full of muted + modern textured details

Lizzie and Jon are not only the best parents to their #urbanrowpup, Molly, but they have a killer sense of style, an impeccable eye for design and hosted an unforgettable wedding day that was intimate, modern, gorgeous, industrial and fun.

Living in Clipper Mill (my favorite historic + industrial neighborhood in Baltimore!), we took both their engagement photos there and Jon getting ready with his groomsmen and Molly, of course. :) The vibe of the entire day was relaxed yet excited, which led to some incredible candid moments with everyone!

Enjoy these early favorites from their wedding, 2+ years in the making… I am SO happy for you two and constantly want to relive this day!!!

6 memorable moments and details from Lizzie and Jon’s Heron Room wedding

  1. The modern, muted and natural palette of organic texture, lush florals and mixed metals. The velvet dress that Lizzie’s sister Catherine wore, paired with the beading on Lizzie’s gown beautifully complimented and softened the historic brick and stone buildings of the old Mill.

  2. Their pup Molly, was a huge part of the day bringing lots of smiles to everyone!

  3. Jon looked so dapper in his crisp navy suit with a polka dot tie. When he and his groomsmen put on their sunglasses, I felt like I was on the set of a GQ photoshoot.

  4. All of the lush, greenery combined with the textured brick and cobblestones at the Heron Room and the Mill No. 1 complex along the Jones Falls made it feel like we were in a tiny, cozy European city.

  5. The floral arch by Emma of Steelcut Flower Co. was not only a gorgeous backdrop for their ceremony, but was able to be repurposed as their seating chart that Lizzie made in varying shades of pink to compliment the warm tones at the venue.

  6. Forgoing the traditional parent dances, they instead had 5 toasts and speeches that brought everyone to tears and then kicked off a dance party that never stopped!

Congratulations, Lizzie + Jon! I can’t express how happy I am for you both and your families and how grateful I am to have been able to document this day… all the stars aligned to make your wedding day happen in a beautifully, relaxed and intimate way with your favorite people next to you!

Here’s to so many more moments together with Molly, dance party beats and the most beautiful memories, both big and small…

elizabeth + steven | a modern, romantic summer wedding at The Winslow

This wedding day felt like floating on a perfect cloud in more than one way… Elizabeth and Steve have a love story that is almost 10 years in the making! They are so comfortable around each other and have such a loving way of being together, it was an absolute dream to photograph their wedding at the Winslow.

The kindness, compassion, curiosity and playfulness they share together makes their relationship one that puts you immediately at ease in their presence. Elizabeth had such a gorgeous vision for how the day would unfold with touches of all of the important elements of their relationship incorporated in a meaningful way (you have to see the cat cake ‘topper’ she found to allow their cats Charlie and Lily to be there with them)!

Enjoy these early favorites from their August wedding day with the most beautiful cotton candy watercolor clouds at sunset… this skyline view and adorable couple definitely set the bar high for future golden hour portraits!

5 DETAILS FROM ELIZABETH + STEVE’S SUMMER WEDDING AT THE WINSLOW THAT WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY…

  1. All of the lush greenery and blush, apricot and cream colored florals by Kate Campbell Floral - they added such a soft, romantic feel and were the perfect contrast to the Winslow, an industrial chic warehouse space full of texture and lots of modern lines.

  2. Elizabeth’s dress was simply breathtaking and left us all speechless; taking bridal portraits in front of the window overlooking the Inner Harbor at the Royal Sonesta was an absolutely stunning way to showcase all of the flowing layers of her gown.

  3. When Steve turned around to see Elizabeth for the first time, his face was simply beaming. It was the sweetest first look!

  4. Making the time to take portraits at Under Armour and the Tide Point waterfront where they got engaged (see their engagement photos HERE)!

  5. The energy on the dance floor once the dance floor officially opened and their guests watched them get introduced as Mr. + Mrs. Buckler! I love how the mezzanine at the Winslow allows guests to watch from above… the hora kicked things off and the party never stopped!

laura + garrison | a vibrant summer wedding at the Accelerator Space

On the last Saturday in August, it was perfectly warm (but not sweltering hot like almost every other day in August has been!), the sun was shining with bright fluffy clouds in the sky and it felt like the world was ready and waiting for this day, when Laura and Garrison got to celebrate their love story in the most beautiful way, surrounded by so many friends and family…

These two are a constant ray of sunshine, a perfect [red-headed :)] team and a couple that bring joy to so many friends and family! I could barely narrow down my favorites to a reasonable amount, so enjoy allllllll of these special moments from their best day ever… sorry, not sorry! I can’t stop thinking about how fun and gorgeous their day was!

7 UNFORGETTABLE MOMENTS + DETAILS FROM LAURA + GARRISON’S SUMMER ACCELERATOR SPACE WEDDING:

  1. That dress!!! It twirled like perfection, had pockets and gorgeously delicate lace with a train that was lightweight yet elegant and classic all at the same time.

  2. The groomsmen’s pillow fight in one of the suites right before they left the Revival Baltimore… groomsmen goals!!!

  3. Laura and the ladies got dressed and ready at the Backus House in Mt. Vernon which was the same place her parents had their ceremony and reception, years ago. I love it when architecture is combined with meaningful places that provide the most perfect backdrop for photos that tell the story of your day.

  4. Their first look — you need to see Garrison’s face when he turned around to see Laura (scroll down)!

  5. Taking portraits in Mt. Vernon; both L+G’s couple’s portraits as well as the entire wedding party… the architecture, Washington Monument and surrounding cobblestone streets have so much texture and European character.

  6. With the Accelerator Space decked out in bright and vibrant summery pink, peach, coral and orange florals and greenery on the metal wall, it felt like a lush garden mixed with an industrial chic wonderland.

  7. The sun didn’t cooperate at sunset, but that didn’t stop us from taking advantage of flattering golden hour light… Julie took some really fun photos using motion blur as Laura twirled on the patio!

10 Accelerator Space Weddings: Industrial Chic Inspiration, Decor + Ideas

If you’re considering having your wedding at an industrial wedding venue in Baltimore, the Accelerator Space is one of my favorites! Here’s what I love most about it:

  1. tons of natural light and character made up of old wood floors, metal walls, large windows and huge skylights

  2. one large open space for you to design to best fit your vision - there are endless configurations!!

  3. a bonus room (the den) for ceremony, cocktail hour, ketubah signing and/or family / couple portraits

  4. an intimate patio for ceremony, cocktail hour and stunning sunset portraits

  5. proximity to open green space and urban industrial space for first looks offsite… if you’re curious, ask and I’ll share my fave spots with you! ;)

urban-row-photo-eleven-courses-catering-accelerator-space_0005.jpg

Since I’ve photographed 10 weddings at the Accelerator Space so far (with more coming!), I wanted to compile a helpful resource for you full of unique ideas and wedding decor inspiration; it showcases how every couple’s wedding day at this specific venue has been different, yet incredibly beautiful! There are countless ways to layout this warehouse space, locate your band, setup your tables, divide the space for a ceremony and reception all in one area, organize the flow, hang bistro or twinkle lights, drapery, etc.

I honestly believe it is one of the most versatile and unique wedding venues in Baltimore! Without further ado, enjoy these gorgeous weddings full of vibrant color, genuine emotion, candid moments and passionately in love urban couples!

an August Accelerator Space wedding with juicy, vibrant florals and pops of orange, coral and peach

what made this wedding unique?

  • With the Accelerator Space decked out in bright and vibrant summery pink, peach, coral and orange florals and greenery on the metal wall, it felt like a lush garden mixed with an industrial chic wonderland.

  • The mix of long rectangular and round tables as well as floral arrangements of different heights in the space added interest and contrast to the space.

  • The band setup against the far metal wall — that’s actually my favorite place for them to be in this space since it then allows a large area for the dance floor with a picturesque, crisp backdrop and no windows behind them.

  • The sun didn’t cooperate at sunset, but that didn’t stop us from taking advantage of flattering golden hour light… we took some really fun photos using motion blur as Laura twirled on the patio!

a black tie wedding at the Accelerator Space in June with sentimental color

some of the unique details from Tori + Sam’s wedding:

  • taking group portraits near the venue in a lush, garden-y North Baltimore neighborhood with just the right amount of shade, space to spread out and beautiful afternoon light — just ask me, I know all the best spots for all types of portraits! ;)

  • they got married in a beautiful interfaith ceremony officiated by two of their best friends against the textured metal wall and under the most beautiful glowing afternoon sunlight streaming through the enormous skylights.

  • when it was time for cocktail hour, the light pouring into the Den where Tori got bustled, was simply exquisite. Frankly, the light coming into this venue at all times is just a photographer’s dream!

  • the reception decor included black taper and pillar candles in gold candlesticks and glass on every table with arrangements full of deep reds, oranges, pinks and maroon flowers; the anemones are my fave! It all added up to a vibe that was modern and edgy, yet romantic and elegant. Seeing Tori’s face light up when they entered and saw the reception space for the first time was definitely a highlight for me.

a relaxed mid-summer Accelerator Space wedding with 2 dogs and lush blooms

some of the unique details from this wedding day:

  • After their first look, we went to one of my favorite wedding party portrait spaces – the open areas near the Homeland lakes. I live closeby, so I walk there often and am always thinking of different ways to document my couples in its gorgeous surroundings. The fact that it’s so close to The Accelerator Space is a bonus!

  • Ceremony was held in the front part of the Accelerator Space, near the large glass black metal doors. Thurman + Fig designed a romantic floral installation of hanging carnations in various shades of whites, reds, blush pinks, and maroons to soften up the industrial feel of the space. This gorgeous floral installation was then repurposed as the backdrop of their sweetheart table.

  • A gorgeous honey colored wood bar with a honeycomb pattern served as a focal point of the reception space.

urban-row-photo-metal-wall-with-greenery-accelerator-space_0008.jpg

what details made this wedding special?

  • Leap Day was their date, the same anniversary as the bride’s grandparents!

  • maroon, blush, black, gold and greenery made up the edgy boho, modern vibe

  • two of their favorite local craft beers were created as signature drinks and we took portraits in the brewery just below the Accelerator Space, Full Tilt Brewing

  • a 6′ black acrylic sign made with song lyrics from their favorite band, The Avett Brothers, announced the escort card display

  • escort card display featured mini glasses of beer with hand-lettered table assignments on a coin card secured to each glass

  • creative and fun food stations by Zeffert & Gold allowed the guests to eat quicker than a seated, plated dinner

  • epic hanging dried floral installation by Thurman & Fig as the focal point above the den fireplace ceremony

  • instead of a ‘photo booth’, they designed a ‘photo lounge’ with the perfect rental pieces from Something Vintage and moved / repurposed the dried florals to hang above it once ceremony was done!

what details made this wedding special?

  • a color palette of sage green, light blue, gold and lavender

  • the ceremony against the metal wall of the venue with sheer draping engineered by the groom and…

  • a copper ‘arch’ as the ceremony backdrop with hanging fabric hoops

  • this couple chose to have their cocktail hour before the ceremony while their guests were arriving at the venue so they could socialize a bit since they had already had their first look! the bride changed into a second dress for this short timeframe: a short vintage-y style beaded and sparkly cocktail dress

  • the long head table was adorned with lush greenery garland, sage green and gold placesettings and light blue cricut menus (made by the bride!)

geometric details at a modern Accelerator Space wedding with greenery and mixed metals

what details made this wedding special?

  • allllll the greenery decor in the form of succulents, ferns and air plants

  • the daytime ceremony was facing the south windows; when covered with a sheer white fabric, it diffused the light and added an ethereal effect that created a beautiful backdrop

  • geometric, mixed metals were part of the modern and somewhat edgy invitation suite, the table decor and the industrial look of the ceremony chairs

  • we incorporated the groom’s motorcycle for their newlywed portraits on the ramp… very fitting for a venue that used to be an auto repair shop and showroom!

There are so many different vibes to take advantage of and design for if you’re getting married at the Accelerator Space! What’s yours going to be?

8 questions to ask potential wedding venues (the ones beyond the basics!)

As soon as you’re engaged and ready to start narrowing down your wedding venue, you might quickly find it overwhelming - there are SO many unique and different wedding venues in the Baltimore, Maryland area!

urban-row-photo-winslow-room-industrial-baltimore-wedding-venue_0005.jpg
urban-row-photo-frederick-douglass-maritime-park-wedding-photographer_0013.jpg

No matter which aesthetic or vibe you’re after, your venue will have specific policies in place to ensure your best day ever is fun, efficient, safe and beautiful for not only you, but for your guests and the vendor team as well.

urban-row-photo-beer-themed-accelerator-space-wedding-escort-display_0015.jpg
urban-row-photo-mt-washington-mill-dye-house-courtyard_0001.jpg

Knowing the answer to these as far in advance as possible, will allow you to:

  1. Save money by knowing the elements of your day you’ll need to possibly budget for differently.

  2. Share this information with your vendors in advance, so the entire team is on the same page.

  3. Be more creative with your decor and layout since you know the parameters you’re working with!

HERE ARE 8 QUESTIONS TO ASK POTENTIAL WEDDING VENUES:

urban-row-photo-ivy-hotel-courtyard-intimate-baltimore-wedding-venue_0008.jpg
  • How long do we have access to the property? When can we / vendors arrive on site?

  • Are we required to hire a wedding planner? NOTE: A venue manager and wedding planner are not the same thing! But that’s a topic for a future blog post… ;)

urban-row-photo-main-street-ballroom-industrial-baltimore-wedding-venue_0007.jpg
  • Are tables and chairs included in our rental?

  • Are pets allowed? For a few epic photos with your #urbanrowpup of course. ;)

urban-row-photo-rawlings-conservatory-baltimore-wedding-venue_0004.jpg
urban-row-photo-sagamore-pendry-fells-point-wedding-venue_0010.jpg
  • Any restrictions or limitations on decor / exits? Candles? Sparklers?

  • If we want to get ready at the venue, what types of spaces do you offer?

  • Are there any noise restrictions? Is there a time that the music needs to stop?

  • What is the rain plan and how far in advance do we need to make the call to move inside / under cover?

urban-row-photo-ogle-hall-clear-top-tent-annapolis-wedding-venue_0009.jpg
urban-row-photo-frederick-douglass-maritime-park-pier-wedding-ceremony_0014.jpg

Let me know if you have specific questions about any of these venues or if you’ve found one that you absolutely love and want to work together at… if there’s one thing that gets my creative juices flowing, it’s finding new places to photograph genuine love stories! ;) Oh and if you find a venue I haven’t been to before, visiting and touring it in advance of your wedding day (either with you or on my own), is one of my favorite things to do!

Until then, happy venue hunting!!

xo,
Naomi

an unconventional + fun accelerator space wedding

Inspired by a love of craft beer, The Avett Brothers and enjoying each other’s company while laughing wholeheartedly, Heather + Jordan’s Accelerator Space wedding was full of personal details, intimate moments, eclectic decor and an edgy, modern aesthetic that complimented their love story and personalities in every way… not to mention, making time to take photos at Baltimore’s best industrial spots!

urban-row-photo-winter-wedding-woodberry-kitchen_0014.jpg
urban-row-photo-clipper-mill-wedding-portraits_0027.jpg

Holding their wedding on Leap Day was just one of the ways these lovebirds designed a wedding that was totally unique, fun, memorable and full of photo ops everywhere you turned. February weddings are not for the faint of heart… H+J braved frigid 28 degree temperatures for not only their first look, but portraits with their wedding party in Clipper Mill; our hands were frozen and our cameras took their time focusing, but these cuties won so many awards in my book - you’d have no idea how cold we all were!

Jordan’s reaction when he saw Heather for the first time says it all…!!!

Heather + Jordan’s modern industrial yet intimate and romantic Accelerator Space wedding was the best way to kickoff 2020… enjoy these sneak peeks, some of my ABSOLUTE favorites from their winter wedding in Baltimore!

urban-row-photo-groom-maroon-suit_0018.jpg
urban-row-photo-groom-maroon-suit_0019.jpg

9 FUN FACTS + HIGHLIGHTS:

  1. Jordan wore a maroon plaid sport coat paired with black converse and a black cap while Heather wore a blush fur stole to keep her warm with white converse that were embroidered with her new last name!

  2. H+J got married on Leap Day, which happened to be the same anniversary as her grandparents.

  3. They shared their first date at a local craft brewery in Baltimore and as a homebrewer, their signature drinks were 2 of their favorite local craft brews (Bells Two Hearted Ale + Union’s Duckpin) and their favors were pint glasses that said ‘Love is Brewing’, so fun!

  4. The Otherside Creatives and Lynn C designed an escort card display inspired by their love of beer: individual mini glasses of beer with hand lettered table assignments and a 6’ black acrylic Avett brothers sign with their favorite lyrics…

  5. To maximize dancing with their guests, there was nothing but open dance floor after the MOH and Best Man gave their speeches - no formal / first / parent dances

  6. Zeffert & Gold created the most delicious dinner stations which meant minimal lines while guests went up to get their food and tons of tasty options: a street taco bar with allll the toppings and sauces, lamb + flank steak with mashed potatoes and mushroom ravioli and chicken in a creamy garlic sauce

  7. Thurman & Fig collaborated with The Otherside Creatives to create a hanging dried floral installation for the ceremony which was EPIC. It was able to be repurposed to go above the photo station with the couch and fern wall after ceremony was done.

  8. Who needs a photo booth when you can design a photo lounge for guests to use??

  9. Heather’s bouquet was full of king protea, tulips, roses, eucalyptus, ranunculus and palm elements… texture, burgundy, blush and amazing smells!

We had never photographed a ceremony in the den space yet and I can tell you, it’s pretty amazing!

a modern industrial + boho chic wedding in dc | mess hall dc wedding

It’s rare that I have the opportunity to be a second photographer, but when the stars align and there is a venue, couple and date that aligns perfectly with my aesthetic, personality and schedule, it’s pure MAGIC.

Industrial warehouse vibes with a fun and modern, laid-back couple who wanted tons of candid and photojournalistic photos at their October wedding? YES PLEASE!

Ben had all of his DJ equipment setup so naturally (or maybe because that was the most naturally light space… ha), I had to setup his details there! I loved hanging out as they got ready since I never usually get to hang with the guys, so with that came a whole new aesthetic to document. Perfect example, I overheard this from one of the groomsmen: “we have all this time to just hang out here and drink whiskey?”

I started the day with Ben and his groomsmen at his apartment and we met up with the rest of the crew at the Mess Hall right before the ceremony. With that area of DC being full of industrial grit, Hannah’s botanical boho-inspired wedding dress was such a gorgeous balance, complimented by an asymmetric, organic and wild, moody bouquet. The bridesmaids all wore different dresses and even a pantsuit (YESSS!) in neutral and metallic shades while the men looked sharp in navy suits.

my favorite 6 unique and memorable elements from Hannah + Ben’s DC Mess Hall wedding in October:

  • the overall raw industrial and urban graphic aesthetic softened with a natural chuppah held in place by loved ones and made up of birch poles with hanging greenery

  • the variety of recycled gin and whisky bottles filled with flowers and used as table centerpieces and reception decor

  • the mismatched neutral + metallic bridesmaids dresses/outfits

  • Hannah wore her hair down with loose waves, embracing a natural and boho chic bridal look

  • tons of blank walls, colorful murals and green space along the railroad tracks to use as portrait backdrops (what more could a photographer want?!)

  • the brunch buffet for dinner (!) and how their guests mingled and danced all night long with intimate rooms and spaces that were all next to each other

sneak peeks | courtney + dustin's mt. washington tavern wedding

When I learned Courtney + Dustin’s wedding would be held at Mt. Washington Tavern, I knew their guests were in for an incredibly fun and untraditional celebration! While living in Baltimore now, they met at a bar at University of Delaware and both grew up in very different places (NJ and Kentucky), so the start of their married life together was a way to highlight what they love about Baltimore and the design, decor and food/drink options at the tavern were a perfect fit!

Their ceremony was held in the Pimlico Room, cocktail hour at the Sky Bar patio and a ‘strolling reception’ with dinner stations located throughout the entire upper level of this modern tavern. Before the main festivities got underway, they got ready at the Marriott Waterfront and took advantage of the GORGEOUS summer day with a slight breeze and perfect blue skies…

urban-row-photo-just-married-mt-washington-tavern_0025.jpg

With Courtney wearing an Essense of Australia gown from Amanda Ritchey Bridal that was made for twirling and Dustin in a navy Bonobos suit with a floral Tie Bar tie, these two were an absolutely stunning couple! Their joy as soon as they saw each other at the first look was one of my favorite moments; Courtney gave Dustin the biggest hug and they took some time to soak it all in before we walked to the promenade for some waterfront portraits.

If you missed their engagement photos, you need to see them here since they enjoyed Sagamore Spirit cocktails at Rye Street Tavern and there was no shortage of adorable glances at each other and lots of genuine laughter, my favorite.

Here are 4 reasons why Courtney + Dustin had such a memorable and amazing Baltimore wedding:

1. their date was 7 years EXACTLY to the day they met at a bar on University of Delaware’s campus

2. Ryan, their officiant, was also Dustin’s roommate in college and initially introduced them at the bar mentioned above

3. Mt Washington Tavern’s architecture and design is full of clean lines, bright walls inside and a deep gray exterior that made for the most moody romantic shots in the evening!

4. After a crazy long week of last minute coordination, travel, weather and wedding week stress for both of them, yesterday’s weather was better than any of us would have ever imagined or could have planned for in late August... we had a rain plan for portraits but desperately wanted them to happen outside (or maybe it was just me who was desperate about that) and not only did we take a ton on the water and outside for their first look and golden hour, but we were ahead of schedule every step of the way and that never happens, especially with a 14 person wedding party!

sneak peeks | erin + greg's spring accelerator space wedding in baltimore

Erin + Greg’s love for each other is so effortless and genuine. They’re the kind of couple that put others at ease whenever you’re in their presence and have a wonderful circle of family and friends that do the same… I knew their wedding day would be incredible because they are so sweet and down to earth!

What I didn’t know was how perfect the weather would be and how wind would be our biggest challenge! Give me spring breezes, a full tulle ballgown and a 20 person bridal party any day… at the Accelerator Space with a couple like this, making magic is easy.

For now, enjoy these sneak peeks and know much more is soon to come!

urban-row-photography-spring-accelerator-space-wedding_0017.jpg

The new ‘den’ at the Accelerator Space definitely made my heart skip a beat when I saw it setup with a lounge near the fireplace… I was patiently waiting for guests to clear out so we could capture Erin + Greg enjoying a quiet moment to themselves!

While they chose not to see each other before their ceremony at St. Joseph’s Church, this decision was so meaningful because it was the church both Erin and Greg were baptized in (for Greg, it was just last week that he became Catholic!) and Erin grew up attending.

The Accelerator Space is one of our favorite venues that provides an incredible backdrop for photos in all 4 seasons… believe it or not, Erin + Greg’s was the first wedding we captured where the ramp plantings were all green and in bloom!
